Subang: Teenager Low Khai Jei has been making waves on both the domestic and international stage and this week has the opportunity of adding another prestigious title to his belt at the 100Plus Malaysian Junior Open, which tees off Wednesday.
This year, the Malaysian Golf Association (MGA) has named the Taiping lad to lead the nation’s challenge in what is expected to be a fiercely contested championship at Saujana Golf & Country Club with 10 Asia-Pacific countries including regional powerhouses Thailand and Philippines confirming their participation.
The 16-year-old Low will be out to make amends after narrowly missing out on the title in dramatic fashion last year when he lost to fellow Malaysian Muhammad Azry Asyraf Noor Azam in a two-hole play-off.
“I can never forget last year because it was a moment of so close yet so far for me. I am back again this year, geared up and well prepared for the challenge,” said the rising star.
Khai Jei, who finished tied 12th in the recent China Amateur Golf Championships in Beijing, is in the right mood to claim the crown at Saujana Golf and Country Club.
“Beijing was a good outing for me and it only motivates me to do better. I am more concerned about the challenges I face at each tournament as I can learn more and develop my style of play,” added Khai Jei, who will be part of the Malaysian team to the World Amateur Team Championship in Antalya, Turkey.
