Sungai Buloh [SELANGOR]: Tragedy struck at Kelab Rahman Putra Malaysia on Wednesday as a club staff drowned after attempting to retrieve a toiletry/shoe bag from a water hazard.

Rizzuan Nazri, 38, was believed to have gone to the assistance of the golfers, whose buggy had rolled into a pond at hole 11 of the Lakes Course.

According to a Bernama report, the club’s senior mechanic managed to salvage the golf bags from the buggy but found himself sucked waist-deep into the sludge as he tried to retrieve the golfers’ other personal belongings that had floated to the middle of the pond.

The Selangor Fire & Rescue Department confirmed that a team was dispatched from Sungai Buloh at 10:19am and  took over an hour to finally retrieve the victim’s body.

Rizzuan is survived by his wife and three young children, aged between four and nine.
