Kuala Lumpur: The 18th edition of the AXA Affin General Insurance National Inter-Club Team Championship next week is once again expected to be a sizzling affair as affiliate clubs of the Malaysian Golf Association send their best players to compete in the annual battle of the clubs.

Scheduled to take place from December 20-21 at Staffield Country Resort in Mantin, the championship will see a much awaited change in the format with the number of players reduced to two per team from three previously and the addition of a separate ladies category. To date, 33 teams have confirmed their participation in the men’s division with a further 15 pairs in the fairer sex category for the 36-hole strokeplay competition.

“Every year, this event has churned out champions from the club members’ rank which is one of the main objectives of this event. Former MGA vice president Tun Abdullah Salleh was the driving force behind the championship envisioned that this event would allow MGA’s affiliates to meet and exchange views. We’re are delighted that the championship has lived up to those ideals proposed by the late Tun Abdullah,” shared MGA’s honorary treasurer Bryan Andrew Perera during the championship’s press conference on December 12.

Title sponsor AXA Affin General Insurance Berhad have once again stepped up to the plate with a sponsorship worth RM25,000 towards the successful running of the event. “It’s gives us great pleasure to once again partner MGA in organising the AXA Affin General Insurance National Inter-Club Team Championship. This is the eighth consecutive year that we’re involved in this ‘battle of the clubs’, previously as Royal Sun Alliance and BHI Insurance (M) Sdn Bhd and we hope that all the participants will live up to challenge,” said Jahanath Muthusamy, the chief executive officer of AXA Affin General Insurance Berhad.

In another development, Jahanath also announced a special hole-in-one donation of RM10,000 should a participant strike an ace during the Swing Fore Charity event organised by MGA on December 15. The charity game is organised to raise funds for MGA’s Athlete’s Scholarship and Welfare Fund.
