Shah Alam: Recognised as one of the nation’s best-maintained golf layouts, Kota Permai Golf and Country Club is in prime condition to challenge the best players on the Asian Tour when the Worldwide Holding Selangor Masters tees off on Wednesday.
Having previously staged the Maybank Malaysian Open in 2008, the award-winning club will stage the RM1.2 million (approximately US$395,000) Asian Tour tournament for the second year running. Its general manager Tang Meng Loon said his greenskeeper has been preparing its par-72 championship course for the big week since the last few months to ensure the players face a truly pristine but challenging golf course.
“We are looking forward to welcoming the best players from the Asian Tour. I gather we will have a very strong international field of champions for the Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters,” said Tang.
“Our championship golf course is in prime condition and we look forward to a great week of golf. Our greens will offer a good test as we can increase the speed should the Asian Tour officials require us to do so,” he added.
Last year, Finland’s Joonas Granberg set a new course record with an opening 62 en-route to claiming his maiden Asian Tour victory with a 15-under-par 273 winning aggregate.
“Kota Permai is definitely one of the finest courses on the Asian Tour rota. It offers great driving but demands accuracy from the tee. The greens are so perfect and fast that you really need your A-game when it comes to the approach shots and putting,” said Granberg.
“It is a fair all-round test for the players. In short, it is a players´ course and I am really excited to be returning to Kota Permai for my title defence. You never know what will happen in golf but I must say that the 62 last year was pretty much on the limit on that golf course.”
