Hat-trick in sight for Kelly

Shah Alam: Reigning champion Kelly Tan took continued her gallant stride at the TSM Golf Challenge 2012 after extending her lead to ten strokes at the conclusion of round two on Saturday.

The 19-year-old got off to a brilliant start when she aced the par-three second en-route to a scintillating round of six-under 72 at Glenmarie Golf & Country Club. Kelly totalled 10-under 134 to lead nearest rival Nur Durriyah Damian, who carded a second consecutive 72.

Johor youngster Loy Hee Ying is a further shot behing in third, improving with a round of 72 compared to her first round effort of three-under 75 yesterday.

It proved to be a perfect day for Kelly, who notched her second career hole-in-one, matching the tournament’s best single round effort which she set three years ago.

“I only expect to play good and take my game in stride. The hole-in-one is really unexpected but I am delighted,” said the 19-year-old national amateur from Batu Pahat.

In the boys’ category, Universiti Utara Malaysia undergraduate Mohd Wafiyuddin Abd Manaf (71) took advantage of a slip by national Muhammad Afif Muhd Razif (77) to lead by one with a round of one-under 71. Afif is tied for second alongside Johor’s Kuhanesh Ganesan.

A total of 32 boy golfers out of 60 advanced into the final round after making the cut which came on 161 while 12 of the 24 girls made the cut-off mark which came a 153.
