Kota Kinabalu: Chan Tuck Soon battled the elements to sit two shots clear at the top of the leaderboard after the weather-interrupted second round of the Sabah Amateur Open on Saturday.
The 18-year-old from Selangor, who is eyeing his first state amateur title in over two years, posted an even-par 72 to leapfrog overnight leader Muhammad Afif Razif (78) with a five-over 149 total at Sabah Golf & Country Club.
Local Solomon Emilio Rosidin, who won the boys’ under-18 title at the Malaysian Schools Sports Council (MSSM) National Championship here last week, was three strokes off the lead after a second consecutive 76 alongside Perlis Amateur Open winner Ahmad Zahir Abd Ghani (77).
In the ladies division, a poor round of six-over 78 saw Michelle Koh’s four-shot opening round lead halved by seasoned junior Nur Durriyah Damian (76). The Sabahan pair of Aretha Pan Herng and Nurul Syahirah Afiqah are tied for third on 151.
