Kajang: Nicholas Fung is eyeing a record fourth title on the Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) Tour this season after snatching the third round lead at the Impian Classic on Friday.
With a second PGM Tour Order of Merit crown all but wrapped up, the national number one from Sabah shot a five-under-par 67 at the Impian Golf & Country Club for a 11-under 205 tally and a one-stroke lead over Iylia Jamil.
Overnight leader remained in contention with a one-under 71 while Rahizam Ramli climbed up the leaderboard with a 67 of his own to lie third on 210 alongside surprise package Chien Tan (69). Seasoned campaigners Airil Rizman (70) and Iain Steel (71) were joint fifth another stroke back on 211.
Playing consistently as he has been for some time now, Fung has progressively shot better rounds at Impian and stands to become the first player to win more than three tournaments in one season on the burgeoning domestic circuit.
“I have been playing reasonably well for a while now,” said the 23-year0old. “And I will try to just carry on with the same tomorrow.
“I am generally happy with the way I’m hitting the ball. I have not changed anything within my swing but I have been training hard and I do know that my putting could be improved. I sunk some long putts but also missed a few that I should really have made,” added Fung.
