KUCHING [Sarawak]: Harrison Endycott raised hopes of  a hat-trick of Aussie wins after setting the clubhouse target at the weather-interrupted Malaysian Amateur Open on Friday.

The second round of the 113th edition of the championship was suspended at 3:45pm with close to half of the field still on the course before the round was officially called off at 5:00pm due to continued rain and badlight.

Players are scheduled to restart early Saturday at 7:00am, with the third round not expected to start before 10:00am.

Endycott, who managed to complete his round just as the siren sounded, returned with a brilliant four-under 68 to set the clubhouse mark at six-under 138.

Starting on the 10th hole, the 18-year-old Sydney native mixed four birdies with two bogeys before holing out from the bunker on the par-five ninth for an eagle.

“Played pretty solid today, didn’t make any mistakes. I managed to get my gameplan going on the front nine and secured a four-under with an eagle on the last. I’m really fortunate to have finished before the rain and take it easy with a late start tomorrow,” said Endycott, adding that it was important to re-hydrate after a sweltering day in the office.

“I set out a very good game plan for the week and if I can stick to that, stay patient and hopefully, get the putts to drop and make some birdies, it can be a very interesting week,” added the 2015 Avondale Amateur Medal winner.
