KUALA LUMPUR: Winnie Ng Yu Xuan will join Nur Durriyah Damian and Ashley Lau Jen Wen in the Malaysian team headed to the 39th Asia-Pacific Amateur Ladies Golf Team Championship for the Queen Sirikit Cup (QSC) this May.

Ng carded rounds of 70,77 and 70 for a one-over 217 overall in a 54-hole selection trial conducted by the Malaysian Ladies Golf Association (MALGA) from February 16-17.

The national junior put on a composed display to finish nine strokes clear of Nuraishah Alisa Che Omar (79-72-75) at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Golf & Country Club to secure her place. Geraldine Wong (75-76-78) came in third on 229.

Ng takes over from SEA Games trainee Loy Hee Ying, who is unable to participate due to collegiate tournament commitments in the United States.

“I’m delighted to make the QSC team for the first time. I hope to make full use of the opportunity and I hope to repay MALGA’s faith in me,” said the 16-year-old from Kuala Lumpur.

The Malaysian trio will make the trip to Zhangjiagang Shuangshan Golf Club in Jiangsu, China in a confident mood, given their tied 5th placing in South Korea last year..

Malaysia’s best Queen Sirikit Cup performance to date came during the 14th edition at Chung Shan Hot Spring Golf Club, China in 1992 when the team of Ai Lian, Siew Ai and Irene Yeoh finished third.

In another development, MALGA has announced that the 34th staging of the Malaysian Ladies Amateur Open (MLAO) will take place at the Glenmarie Golf & Country Club from May 3-5. For further information on the event, visit www.malga.org.my
