KUALA LUMPUR: The Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) Tour has taken a leaf from the All Thailand Golf Tour by introducing a separate ladies division in its domestic closed tournaments.

Due to the small number of Malaysian lady professionals currently, the inaugural PGM Ladies event will be staged concurrently with the Perlis Championship in Kangar, Perlis from May 21-24.

Three lady professionals golfers namely Michele Low, Michelle Koh and Ainil Johani Abu Bakar have confirmed their participation.

In a statement, PGM Tour chairman Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid noted that the decision was part of the PGM’s initiative to support the lady golfers in their bid to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

“I am pleased to announce that the PGM has decided to include the country’s professional lady golfers into the PGM Tour. The participants will be limited to Malaysian lady professional golfers who are PGM Tour card holders. There will be separate prize money for the lady golfers, and therefore, will not affect the prize money already allocated to the PGM Tour (for male golfers),” he noted.
