A first for Bryan


Shah Alam, Selangor; June 3:
A final day score of one-over-par 72 was good enough for Bryan Hong Zhi Xian to celebrate his maiden victory on the SportExcel junior circuit.

The nine-handicapper from Kelab Rahman Putra Malaysia accumulated a tournament total of seven-over-par 151 to emerge victorious in the boys’ under-20 category at the second leg of the SportExcel-NSC National Junior Golf Circuit 2011 which concluded today at the Monterez Golf & Country Club. It was the 17-year-old’s first victory after close to three years participating in the nation’s top junior circuit.

Three strokes adrift in second was Johorean Muhammad Rabbani Mohd Hassan, who carded rounds of 75 and 79 while Kenneth Lui Da Hui from  Seremban International Golf Club was third on 155 (75-80).

The two-day leg attracted a bumper turnout of 160 participants with 125 player advancing to the final round after the  two-session first round on Thursday.

Kelab Rekreasi Tentera Udara emerged the champion club for the leg, accumulating a total of 27 points.
