Kuala Lumpur; June 3: Isza Fariza Ismail capped off a successful week for herself by holding off the challenge of Nur Durriyah Damian to lift the fourth Kelab Golf Negara Subang-Mazda Ladies Amateur Open title yesterday.
The 17-year-old Isza, who won the Negeri Sembilan Amateur Open on Sunday, carded rounds of 74, 75 and 74 for a tournament total of seven-over-par 223 to garner a four-stroke victory at the Putra Course of Kelab Golf Negara Subang (KGNS).
Fellow national player Durriyah proved a tough competitor and moved level with the overnight leader through 12 holes but a rough patch on the final stretch coupled with Isza’s run of birdies on the 15th,16th and 17th saw the 15-year-old take second place on 227 after rounds of 75, 75 and 77. KGNS ladies club champion Datin Rahmah Arshad (6) was placed third on 243 (83-79-81).
Isza was pleased with her performance, despite feeling the effects of playing her third straight tournament in as many weeks. “I’m quite happy even though I feel my scores were a little affected by my strenuous schedule in recent weeks,” said Isza, who picked up the champion’s trophy from Kelab Golf Negara Subang vice-president Datuk Ruslin Hashim.
Also gracing the ceremony was the new president of the Malaysian Golf Association, Admiral (R) Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Mohd Anwar Mohd Nor.
Eighteen-handicapper Suzie Lee of Tropicana Golf & Country Resort emerged the nett champion with a score of 213 (75-70-68).
The Mazda 2 sedan on offer as a hole-in-one prize by title sponsor Bermaz Motor Sdn Bhd, however, when unclaimed.
