Petaling Jaya, June 9: An opening round of 71 and 73 respectively saw Gavin Kyle Green and Tan Wei Chean take the early lead in the boys’ under-18 and boys’ under-21 categories of the Selangor International Junior Masters presented by Etiqa today.
A total of 95 junior golfers from across the country are battling it out for honours in the annual 54-hole affair at Kelab Golf Seri Selangor, which began today.
Gavin opened up a three-shot lead over Kenneth Lui and Aravindakumar Sinniah, both who shot 74 while Wei Chean holds a slender one-shot advantage over national player Mohd Hisyam Majid.
Johor’s Asha Lakshme Balakrishnan register a four-over 76 to top girls’ division with Isza Fariza Ismail in second on 78.
In the tightly-contested boys’ under-15 category, Amir Nazrin Jailani and Mohd Akmal Abdul Wahab are tied for first on 75, with only five strokes separating the top 10 players.
Galven Kendall Green holds a comfortable four-shot lead over Khavish Varman Varadan in the boys’ under-12 category.
The top four players from the boys’ under-18 and boys’ under-21 divisions will receive invites to the Asian Tour’s Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters to be held in July at the Kota Permai Golf & Country Club.
