Petaling Jaya, June 10: Tan Wei Chean pulled himself ahead after his rivals struggled to make inroads on day two of the Selangor International Junior Masters presented by Etiqa.
The 18-year-old from Tropicana Golf & Country Resort opened up a five-stroke advantage over Chan Tuck Soon in the boys’ under-21 after carding a second consecutive 73 for a total of 146 at the Seri Selangor Golf Club today.
Mohd Hisyam Abdul Majid dropped to third place after a dismal 70 today for a two-day score of 153. Tuck Soon, however, moved into the lead in the boys’ under-18 on 151 after overnight leader Gavin Kyle Green carded a disappointing 82. Ahmad Zahir Ghani was placed third after a second-round of 78 for a total of ten-over-par 154.
In the boys’ under-15, Korea’s Park Chang Uk moved into a share of the lead with pacesetter Mohd Akmal Abdul Wahab after a strong two-over-par 74. Galven Kendall Green maintained his lead over Khavish Varman Varadan on the boys’ under-12 division despite Khavish shooting a 77 to Galven’s 78 today.
Janice Ling shot up the leaderboard in the girls’ division after registering a 75 for a total of 153, to hold a slender one-shot lead over the duo of Isza Fariza Ismail and Asha Lakshme Balakrishnan.
The field was reduced for the final round tomorrow after a cut-off today – boys’ under-12 (top eight & ties), boys’ under-15 (top 12 & ties), boys under-18 (top 15 & ties), boys’ under-20 (top 15 & ties) and girls’ (top 10 & ties).
Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Dato’ Abdul Khalid Ibrahim and Etiqa CEO Hans de Cuyper is expected to present the prizes to the winners tomorrow.
The top four players from the boys’ under-18 and boys’ under-21 divisions will receive invites to the Asian Tour’s Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters to be held in July at the Kota Permai Golf & Country Club.
