Kuching: Seasoned professional S. Murthy (pic) got his campaign at the RM250,000 Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) Sarawak Classic, off to a good start with an opening round 67 at Kelab Golf Sarawak today.
The 38-year-old Murthy mixed seven birdies against two bogeys to lead PGM Penang Classic R. Nachimuthu (65) by one stroke while M. Sasidaran and young gun Nicholas Fung were a further two shots back in joint third.
Akhmal Tarmizee Nazari and Md Rashid Ismail carded rounds of 70 with amateur Asri Khalid providing the surprise of the day with a solid score of one-under-par 70 alongside rookie professional Muhd Alwarith Damian.
The twelfth leg of the burgeoning Tour saw a total of 85 participants with Zulkarnain Abdul withdrawing earlier today.
