Kulai: National junior Loy Hee Ying and Ashley Goh provided the cheers for hosts Johor as they kept the chase on leaders Selangor after the second round of the Malaysian School Sports Council (MSSM) National Golf Championship on Wednesday.
Seventeen-year-old Loy carded a one-over 73 at the Allamanda course at Palm Resort Golf & Country Club to usurp first round leader and reigning girls’ under-18 champion Nur Eliana Ariffin (77) of Melaka by three strokes.
Meanwhile in the girls’ under-12 category, Goh slipped with a 14-over 86 to see her six-shot overnight advantage trimmed to just three by Selangor’s Allycia Gan Pheik Wen.
Kedahan Mohd Nor Azren Nor Azam continued as the standout player in the tournament, carding a one-under 71 to follow on yesterday’s 72 to lead by four strokes from local favourite Daeng Abdul Rahman Abdul Aziz (70), who recovered with a two-under 70.
Selangor look on course for their sixth successive overall championship, with Amir Nazrin Jailani (boys’ under-18), Siti Zulaikhaa Shaari (girls’ under-15) and Feirish Nor Feizal Nor (boys’ under-12) leading in three age-group categories.
