Kuala Lumpur: FedEx Cup champion Billy Horschell heads an early cast of international stars that have committed to play at the fifth edition of CIMB Classic next month.

Horschel, who won both the BMW Championship and Tour Championship by Coca-Cola en-route to becoming the youngest FedExCup champion in history, will be joined by world number three Sergio Garcia when the prestigious US$7 million tournament returns to Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club from October 30 – November 2.

Titleholder Ryan Moore has also confirmed his participation while reigning Malaysian Open champion Lee Westwood will aim for back-to-back victories at the acclaimed West Course layout.

American Ryder Cup team mates Jimmy Walker and Patrick Reed have also confirmed their participation alongside Japanese rising stars Hideki Matsuyama and Ryo Ishikawa. Title sponsors CIMB Group have also extended a sponsor’s invite to China’s teenage sensation Guan Tianlang.

The tournament will feature a 78-player elite field, comprising 60 from the PGA TOUR, 10 from the Asian Tour and eight sponsor’s exemptions.

“In just 5 years, the CIMB Classic has taken its place among the largest tournaments in the world and the stage is once again set for some world-class golf,” said CIMB Group chief marketing & communications officer Effendy Shahul Hamid.

“If these early commitments are anything to go by, come October, Malaysia will once again showcase a stellar collection of the best players from across the globe.”
