KUALA LUMPUR: Three birdies in his closing four holes saw Gavin Kyle Green advance into the second stage of the European Tour Qualifying School by the skin of his teeth on Friday.
Six shots off the cut-off point at the start of the final round, the 21-year-old rookie carded a superb five-under 67 at the Fleesensee Golf and Country Club to finish in a tie for 23rd at the Qualifying School First Stage Section A.
Having opened his campaign in Berlin with a solid two-under 70, Green watched his hopes of securing playing rights on European soil next year drift away with rounds of 73 and 76.
But the former national came roaring back – notching six birdies against a sole bogey – to total two-under 286 and finish just on the mark alongside six others.
A total of 29 players – led by winner Marcus Larsson of Sweden (21-under) – made it through to second stage, which will be held across four Spanish venues later in November.
