SINGAPORE: Malaysian Nicholas Fung was thrilled to put himself in contention after signing for a scintillating second round 67 at the inaugural World Classic Championship at Laguna National on Friday.

Fung, who had opened with a three-over 74 yesterday, went out with all guns blazing at the challenging World Classic course, which is known for its treacherous slopes and tricky greens, to lie one shot behind clubhouse leader Scott Barr of Australia.

Barr kept the faith in himself by carding an even-par 71 as play was suspended for over two hours due to thunderstorms in the afternoon and could not be completed due to fading light.

Fung, who has twice featured at the same tract as part of the Malaysian line-up at the Prudential Causeway Trophy, was delighted with his two-day effort of one-under 141.

“It’s fantastic to shoot a 67 on this course. I have no complaints even though I missed a couple of short putts. I hit the ball really good today. I only missed one fairway. I have played this course before so I guess it’s a bit of an advantage for me,” said Fung.

“For some holes out there, making bogey is actually very good already. You just have to try not to make anything worse than that and you should be safe,” added the Sabahan.
