Local line-up announced for Maybank Championship

Shah Alam [SELANGOR]: Fourteen Malaysians are assured of a start at the Maybank Championship next month after the organisers finalised the local line-up on Friday.

Nicholas Fung and Danny Chia secure automatic starts thanks to their top-60 finish on the Asian Tour Order of Merit while Ben Leong earned an invite after winning the Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) Maybank Players’ Championship in December.

Maybank’s ASEAN ambassador Gavin Kyle Green will headline a list of ten domestic challengers from the final 2016 PGM Order of Merit, comprising of Nachimuthu Ramasamy, Sukree Othman, Khor Kheng Hwai, Airil Rizman Zahari, Sasidaran Muthiah, Kemarol Baharin, Iylia Jamil, Low Khai Jei and Sivachandhran Supramaniam.

Also assured of a spot at the showdown in Saujana Golf & Country Club is the country’s top-ranking amateur Daeng Abdul Rahman Abdul Aziz, who joins Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship and US Amateur Open winner Curtis Luck of Australia in the field.

They will be part of the 156 player line-up tackling the challenging Palm Course for a share of the US$3million prize purse.

Marquee players Danny Willett, Charl Schwartzel and Anirban Lahiri have already been announced with more names to follow in the coming days.
