Kuching [SARAWAK]: Wilson Choo claimed his third Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) title – his first since 2015 – at the Sarawak Championship on Saturday.
A closing 71 handed Choo the title on six-under 282 at Kelab Golf Sarawak – three shots clear of 2017 Order of Merit winner Shahriffuddin Ariffin.
Shahriffuddin, who was four shots off the lead going into the final round, managed a two-under 70 to secure a second runner-up finish in as many weeks in Sarawak.
Rizal Amin continued his late-season resurgence, taking sole third on even-par 288.
Holding a share of the lead since the opening round, Choo was relatively untroubled as he traded three birdies against two bogeys to cruise home for a victory.
“This win is something special because it came at a point where I didn’t expect to be in contention. This season has been full of ups-and-downs and I was thinking about hanging up my clubs at one point. Fortunately, I stuck to it and I think my hard work was rewarded this week,” said the 29-year-old.
“A couple of weeks, I won a new car in raffle draw and I was thinking that maybe Lady Luck was shining down on me. And thankfully, that lucky run has continued with this title,” he added.
