Unique circuit set to spice up local amateur scene

Kuala Lumpur; May 11: The GolfersMate Golf Extravaganza is set to rejuvenate the local amateur golf scene with its one-of-a-kind golf circuit, offering a bevy of attractive prizes for winners as well as non-victorious participants.

The tournament which will tee-off its first leg on July 12 at Perangsang Templer Golf Club is expected to attract a total of 2,800 golfers over six legs. Each leg will consist of four rounds of golf played over two consecutive days, which each session offering separate prizes and mini lucky draws.

The participants will then converge for a gala dinner on the final day where the overall winners for each leg will be crowned. One lucky golfer will also drive home a brand new Perodua Viva Elite in the sure-to-win grand lucky draw.

The event’s organiser The GolfersMate Sdn Bhd aims to create a credible golf circuit which not only rewards the actual winners but also ensures that more than quarter of the total participants go home feeling like a champion.

“We acknowlege that it is near impossible to eradicate the sandbaggers or buayas but we want to offer a level playing field to all our participants in terms of winning something. We hope that this tournament will rekindle the enthusiasm among golfers to participate in amateur golf circuits once again,” said The GolfersMate’s group chief executive officer Steven Leow (pic left).

“Due to the nature of our business as suppliers of caddies and motorized golf carts, I have had the opportunity to participate in many golf tournaments in Indonesia. What struck me the most is that not only do the winners take home prizes but a majority of participants are also rewarded,” explained Leow when asked about the idea behind the Golf Extravaganza.

The tournament will be played based on the Stableford format with four different categories – Medal A (Handicap 0-12), Medal B (Handicap 13-18), C Medal (Handicap 19-24) as well as a Ladies Medal (Handicap 0-36).
Pulai Spring Resort will host the second leg from October 12-13 with the third leg scheduled for Glenmarie Golf & Country Club from December 14-15. The remaining three legs will be held in the first half of next year.

The sponsors for the event include Fusion Excel, Transview Golf, FireFly, Perangsang Templer Golf Club, Quality Hotel, Red Bull, Hong Leong Yamaha, Rumah Makan Griya Rasa, Perodua, SWS Motors, 100Plus, SunPlay, GLi, Le Run and PT Sari Sihat Malaysia.
