Kuala Lumpur: Banking giant Maybank reiterated its support to the domestic professional golf scene after announcing that it will title sponsor the Professional Golf of Malaysia’s season-ending Tour Championship later this year.
The RM300,000 tournament, named the PGM-MAYBANK Tour Players’ Championship, will be played at the Impian Golf & Country Club from December 19-22 and will provide an exciting conclusion to the burgeoning domestic circuit’s 2012 season.
In addition to that, Maybank will come on-board as one of the presenting sponsors for the Asian Development Tour (ADT) co-sanctioned PGM Sarawak Classic, which tees off at Sarawak Golf Club on Thursday.
With its flagship sponsorship of the prestigious Maybank Malaysian Open, Maybank is proud to continue its long-standing commitment towards the growth of the Royal & Ancient game in Malaysia by sharing the PGM Tour’s goal to increase the level of gamesmanship necessary for local professionals to succeed, not only at the national stage but also in the regional arena.
“We are pleased to be associated with the fast-growing PGM Tour. Maybank has always been supporting golfing in Malaysia as well as development and the careers of our top professionals such as Danny Chia and Shaaban Hussin who are our golf ambassadors. Our sponsorship of the two tournaments in the PGM Tour is part of our overall effort to ensure sustainable development of golfing talents in the country,” said Maybank chairman Tan Sri Megat Zaharuddin Megat Mohd Nor.
He added that the PGM Tour under the Chairmanship of Tun Ahmad Sarji bin Abdul Hamid, had proven its capabilities in successfully organising high-level local tournaments for Malaysian golfers to earn their living as professionals and at the same time, offer them an avenue to hone their skills.
PGM chairman Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid stressed that the support by Maybank not only strengthens the financial resources of the Tour but also comes as a great boost to the PGM Tour’s efforts to establish itself as one of the region’s strongest domestic circuits.
“The involvement of a leading financial services group such as Maybank will surely help PGM Tour a great deal towards its objective in the development of professional golf in Malaysia to build up its own brand,” said Ahmad Sarji.
