Jasin [MELAKA]: Low Khai Jei became only the third amateur to win on the Professional Golf of Malaysia  (PGM) Tour after a convincing five-shot victory at the Orna Championship on Saturday.

The 19-year-old from Taiping was relatively untroubled in the final round as a closing three-under 69 set-up a winning total of 14-under 274 at the Orna Golf & Country Club.

Two-time Order of Merit champion Nicholas Fung recorded a one-under 71 to claim outright second ahead of fellow Sabahan Ben Leong (70), who settled for third with a seven-under 281 overall.

A disappointing 73 saw Khor Kheng Hwai finish on 282 – a massive eight strokes behind the winner in fourth place.

With his nearest challengers unable to mount a charge, Low drained three birdies in a flawless opening nine 33 to extend his overnight advantage to five strokes.

The nation’s top-ranked amateur stayed disciplined, trading a birdie and bogey apiece on the homeward nine to carve out his own piece of history on the flourishing domestic circuit.
