
KUALA LUMPUR: LPGA rookie Cheyenne Woods has been an extended a sponsor’s invite for the sixth edition of the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia in October.
The 25-year-old Arizona native, who is perhaps better known for her family connection to uncle and 14-time major winner Tiger, joined the LPGA Tour in December last year. She enjoyed a prolific career as an amateur, winning more than 30 tournaments, before turning professional in 2012 with two professional titles to her belt since.
Woods is relishing the chance to joins a field already bursting with star power, with the likes of world number one Inbee Park, Lydia Ko, So Yeon Ryu, Hyo-Joo Kim, titleholder Shanshan Feng and past winner Lexi Thompson all confirming their participation in US$2 million tournament.
“I’ve heard a lot of great things about the tournament so I’m looking forward to seeing it myself. We get to travel to a lot of amazing places throughout the year and I always like to get to know the places that we visit, so I’ll definitely get out to see some of the sites around Kuala Lumpur,” said Woods, who will be making her debut at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club.
Talking about life on the LPGA Tour, Woods added: “I’ve had some ups and downs in my first year but overall I’m learning a lot about my game and what it takes to be a top player. So I’m constantly trying to get better and trying to learn what I’ve got to do to get to that number one spot. I’m looking forward to the Asian Swing which will be a new experience for me,” she shared.
